
Christy Chen
Christy Chen, based in Madrid, is an accomplished violinist who has performed and taught extensively across North America and Europe. In the last two decades, she has performed in some of the most well-known venues in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Auditorio Nacional of Madrid, Davies Symphony Hall, Palau de la Musica Catalana, Casa de la Musica of Oporto, and Smetana Hall. Christy has shared the stage and collaborated with revered artists of the classical music industry such as Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, Joshua Bell, and Julian Rachlin, to name a few.
Born in Los Angeles and raised in the Bay Area, Christy was trained classically from the age of five as a pianist, and started developing her skills as a violinist at age eight. As a young musician, she won various prizes in young artist competitions, including the United States Open Music Competition, Nova Vista Symphony Concerto Competition, Contra Costa String Association Young Artists Concerto Competition, and performed as a soloist both as a pianist and violinist with local youth and community orchestras in Northern California. She was a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and toured twice with them, performing in prestigious venues throughout Europe.
Having received Indiana University’s Premier Young Artist Award, Joseph Gingold Violin Scholarship, and Music Faculty Scholarship, Christy completed her Bachelor of Music Degree in Violin Performance at IU’s Jacobs School of Music (USA) under the tutelage of world-renowned pedagogue Mauricio Fuks, where she also served as his teaching assistant for two years. She graduated Indiana University with Honors, and went on to obtain her Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (Germany), under the guidance of Elisabeth Kufferath. Christy’s previous professors include Wei He, Li Lin, and Stanley Ritchie (baroque violin). As a participant of many masterclasses and music festivals such as Music@Menlo and Music Academy of the West, she also received lessons from Jorja Fleezanis, Kathleen Winkler, Glenn Dicterow, Frank Huang, and Martin Beaver. Other influential musical mentors in chamber music include Peter Stumpf, Oliver Wille, and the Takács Quartet.
Christy is currently a member of the Orquesta Reino de Aragón in Zaragoza. Since her move to Madrid in 2019, she has toured and performed throughout Spain and Portugal with the Madrid Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia, and Délica Chamber Orchestra. In the past she has been invited to play in opera productions with the Hannover State Opera in Germany as well as to tour with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Christy is also an experienced session musician that has recorded soundtracks for movies, TV series, documentaries, and video games for companies such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Movistar, and has also made appearances as an extra as a violinist for Netflix Spain (Holy Family (2022), Love, Divided (2024)).
Christy also loves bringing the joy of live music to more intimate settings and has played in numerous weddings, corporate and government events, museum exhibitions, celebrations of life, and special occasions.

As an instructor, Christy is an energetic and enthusiastic teacher who communicates her love and knowledge of music to each of her students through a holistic approach, taking account of each student’s goals, pace, and style of learning, and adapting their lessons and curriculum to their needs. Christy loves to work with people of all ages and walks of life, and has experience teaching children, teens, and adults. With her bright and cheerful personality, Christy is dedicated to helping her students build a strong musical foundation while nurturing their passion for music.
